On 'The Devil’s Road’
                    Four Santa Cruz filmmakers set out to bring a historic expedition out of obscurity. The result was a feature-length historical-nature-adventure documentary called “The Devil’s Road.”
                
                
            Mobile home destroyed by blaze
                    A single-wide mobile home was gutted by flames early Friday morning inside the Blue Pacific Mobile Home Park, 220 Mar Vista Drive in the Seacliff area of Aptos.

            Kids2Parks registration opens
                    Kids2Parks offers free educational field trips in local State Parks to select Title 1 elementary schools in Santa Cruz, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Teachers apply online for the free field trips and will be informed by May 8 if their application was selected.                 
                
            Cabrillo hosts thousands of fourth-graders
                    APTOS — Nearly 3,000 fourth-grade students from around Santa Cruz County came to Cabrillo College’s Aptos campus early in March to get their first taste of college life and, organizers hope, show them that post-secondary education is within their reach.                
                
            Brothers save girl from drowning
                    The boys recently rescued a 4-year-old girl from drowning.
That happened on March 24, while they were attending a birthday party for a friend of their sister at Santa Maria Beach, which lies at the end of 21st Avenue in Santa Cruz.                
                
            Aptos home burns to the ground
                    A house was fully engulfed in flames at 1250 Valencia School Road in Aptos Sunday evening. The blaze, which was first reported at around 6:45 p.m., ended up burning the structure flat to the ground. No injuries were reported. The family of five that lived at the home were reportedly not in the area at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire in still under investigation.                
                
            Local author kicks off crowdfunding campaign
                    Allison created P.I.N.K. Backpack, a series of digital handbooks aimed to teach girls ages 8-10 and their parents about gender equality. The handbooks cover everything from responding to gender bias to understanding consent.                
                
            Sheriff’s deputy, security guard thwart inmate escape
                    SANTA CRUZ — A Santa Cruz County Jail inmate was recaptured Monday during an attempted escape on a visit to Dominican Hospital, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dee Baldwin said.
