Soquel trailer fire spreads into garage, classic car collection

SOQUEL—A fire that broke out in a trailer spread into a garage and a collection of classic cars Monday evening on the 600 block of Olive Springs Road.

Central and Aptos/La Selva Fire spokesman Mike DeMars said the 5:50 p.m. incident began in a Casita Travel Trailer and then spread into an adjacent garage.

Since the property is located in a rural area where there are no public fire hydrants, fire crews had to call two water tenders to establish a water supply.

Firefighters tried to contain the fire but it quickly spread into the garage.

“Through a coordinated fire attack, firefighters managed to limit fire damage to the garage,” DeMars said. “There was no fire spread to adjacent structures.”

No injuries were reported.

The garage contained a collection of classic automobiles, DeMars said. Several of them sustained heat, smoke and water damage. The trailer was a total loss, DeMars said.

Two vehicles parked near the trailer were also damaged by fire.

Investigators believe the fire started in the trailer, but the exact cause has not been determined. The garage was equipped with a fire sprinkler system.

“However, it appears that it was not functioning at the time of the fire,” DeMars said.
