A Las Vegas man was arrested Friday after leading police on a chase with a 3-year-old in the vehicle.
Capitola police did not name the 41-year-old suspect.
But the Santa Cruz County inmate locator shows that Jacob Blake Miller, 41, was charged with evading officers, obstructing officers, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and felony child abuse with the possibility of great bodily injury.
He was initially booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail, but a Santa Cruz County Superior Court judge later raised it to $75,000.
According to the Capitola Police Department, officers attempted a traffic stop on an Acura sedan on 41st Avenue for a traffic violation. The driver refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit in which he began driving recklessly the wrong direction at high speeds.
Officers stopped the pursuit in Aptos out of a concern for public safety, but a short time later California Highway Patrol units saw the Acura near Seascape.
The driver fled again, beginning a second pursuit that ended when the vehicle came to a stop near Hidden Beach County Park.
The driver refused to exit the vehicle for a short time until he was arrested.
The child’s 38-year-old mother, also from Las Vegas, was arrested on separate charges. The 3-year-old child was uninjured and turned over to protective services.
