CHP: Unlicensed teen driver was drunk, had gun and billy club

SANTA CRUZ — A California Highway Patrol officer arrested a 16-year-old boy early Wednesday morning on suspicion that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, CHP officer Sam Courtney said.

According to Courtney, an officer saw the boy driving on Mission Street near Averitt Street at about 2:30 a.m. with no headlights. The boy was arrested for DUI, and for being in possession of a loaded handgun and a billy club. In addition, the juvenile was not licensed to drive.

He was booked into Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall.
