SANTA CRUZ COUNTY—Massage therapy, nail salons, tattoo parlors and other personal services can reopen in Santa Cruz County on Friday, the county announced Monday.
The county said those businesses should follow state guidance released by the California Department of Public Health June 12 which requires all employees and customers to wear face coverings at all times and encourages workers at nails salons to also wear a face shield if one is available.
The announcement comes just days after gyms, bars and movie theaters across the state and county were allowed to reopen on June 12, continuing the increased speed in which leaders are loosening restrictions put in place to slow the spread of Covid-19.
In Santa Cruz County, there are currently 53 known active Covid-19 cases and there has been 257 total since the novel coronavirus started to spread in early March. A majority of the people (202) who have contracted the disease have recovered, and only 34 have required hospitalization because of the illness. Two have died.
