The sprawling Aptos Village Project got its newest neighbor Monday when Santa Cruz County officials officially opened the Aptos Public Safety Center.
The center combines a Sheriff’s substation with offices for the Santa Cruz County District Attorney and Probation departments, along with an office for Second District Supervisor Zach Friend.
The new building replaces the Sheriff’s Office substation formerly located in the Rancho Del Mar shopping center.
“This project is going to provide much easier access to Aptos and the surrounding area,” Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart said.
County District Attorney Jeff Rosell called the office housing multiple law enforcement and governmental officials “unprecedented” for the County.
County Supervisor Zach Friend said the project will fill a gap noted by many county residents.
“I’ve heard a lot that people feel that in Mid-County and South County there are definitely less services provided,” he said. “This provides a new component here in Mid-County that we’ve never had before.”
