SANTA CRUZ COUNTY—Santa Cruz County health officials identified 37 new Covid-19 cases—the county’s largest single-day jump since the virus started its spread—on Monday, increasing the number of new cases over the last eight days to 142.
There are 216 active cases in the county, and there have been 501 cases overall. Those numbers still remain low when compared to surrounding counties such as Monterey (2,239) and Santa Clara (5,478), and counties of similar population size such as San Luis Obispo (808).
Thirteen county residents have been hospitalized over the last 14 days and two have been admitted into the ICU, according to state data. The county’s ICU beds are at 67% capacity.
The county’s positivity rate in testing has also risen to 6%—it was previously holding steady around 3% near the end of June.
