Aptos High turns 50

APTOS — Aptos High School rang in its 50th anniversary on Sept. 20, with musical performances, a cheerleading demonstration and the christening of the new quad area.

The celebration was attended by PVUSD Superintendent Michelle Rodriguez, Trustees Kim DeSerpa and Jennifer Holm, County Supervisor Zach Friend, ASB President senior Josh Powell.

DeSerpa thanked voters for passing Measure L in 2012, the $150 million bond that has funded projects throughout the district. The measure also paid for upgrades to the school’s quad, library and roofs.

According to AHS principal Peggy Pughe, Aptos High graduated its first senior class in 1970.

“When Aptos High opened its doors in 1969, we welcomed students and staff eager to create a legacy of excellence in academics, activities, arts, & athletics. Our school is honored to serve our community and we are grateful for the support we continue to receive,” Pughe said. “We are proud to continue the dedication to excellence for years to come.”
