According to Santa Cruz Police spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke, police responded to a call or a fight in the area of Third and Kaye streets at about 6:40 p.m.

The fight reportedly began when a group of suspected gang members from Santa Cruz County confronted four people visiting from Antioch who parked their car on 3rd Street.

The local gangsters flashed gang signs, shouted threats and initiated the fight, which included the use of a skateboard and broken bottle, Blaschke said. The visiting group fought back, and everyone fled when the stabbing happened.

Detectives do not believe the group from Antioch is gang affiliated, Blaschke said.

The victim survived his injuries and was uncooperative with investigators in the case. He was taken by air ambulance to a trauma center with multiple stab wounds to his arms and torso.

SCPD Officers also detained five subjects possibly involved in the incident at the same motel where the suspect’s vehicle was located.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Santa Cruz Police detectives at 420-5800.
