Santa Cruz Police looking for stabbing suspect

SANTA CRUZ — Santa Cruz Police are looking for a man who allegedly stabbed two people Friday night in the downtown area.

Dennis Wells, 26, is still at large after the incident, SCPD spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said.

According to Blaschke, police responded to the area of Pacific Avenue and Maple Street at about 11:20 p.m. for a report of a stabbing.

Officers located two stabbing victims, one with a wound to the head and the other with an injury to the neck. The victims, both males, were taken to trauma centers in San Jose with life-threatening injuries, Blaschke said.

After reviewing security footage, interviewing witnesses and working with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, investigators identified Wells as the suspect.

A Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge later issued a warrant for Wells’ arrest charging him with assault with deadly weapon and attempted murder.

Wells is considered armed and dangerous, Blaschke said.

Anyone who sees Wells is advised not to approach him, but to call 911.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SCPD Investigations Section at 420-5820. Anonymous tips can be left at 420-5995.
